Many small businesses limit their color palette in print to one or two colors, because of printing costs. But, online, colors are free – so why not expand your palette?

As long as you can extend your color palette in a way that works well with your Brand Definition and Visual Vocabulary, I recommend taking advantage of the color capabilities online. A well-constructed and well-planned color palette can make your site more visually appealing and interesting, and can help to draw your visitors in.

Do be careful of using color just because you can, though – make sure that the color choices that you do make add to the site’s overall message and appeal. Don’t create a rainbow-hued site with distracting colors – too much color can overwhelm your visitors and make your site difficult to stay on for too long.
