Small business branding is all about creating materials that make sure that others see your business the way you want to show up.  You need to set your clients up to see your business the way you want to be seen.

But, how do you do that? What do you have control over?

The part of your brand that you can direct consists of 3 components:

  1. What you say about your brand. Your text. The way you talk about your business. Your 30-second pitch. Your tone of voice, even!
  2. What your clients see. This is where your designs come in. Logo, business card, website, brochure, email template, thank-you card, trade show booth banner, letterhead, Powerpoint template… this even extends in to the way you dress for your headshot.
  3. How your clients experience you. When you send emails, answer the phone, meet people live, deliver your services… all of that adds to your brand’s impression.

You have a great deal of control over these 3 aspects of your brand. Too many small business owners give away control of these parts by not approaching them strategically and using their power wisely. Don’t be one of those business owners!
